Kids Darth Vader Costumes
The Darth Vader costume is perhaps the most sought after of all the Star Wars Halloween costumes for children. It is by far the one that stands out the most with the black helmet and mask and long black cape, but George Lucas had not originally planned for Darth Vader to look like this.
It wasn’t until the concept artist drew Vader’s first scene where he and his Stormtroopers were going to fly through space to enter the rebel ship. This would mean that Vader and his Stormtroopers would require a suit and breathing mask, but the ability to fly was dropped and the suits were kept permanently.
The sound created when he breathes was made by the sound engineer, who recorded himself breathing into a scuba regulator to get the breathing sound that has become one of the most recognised in movie history. Even though Star Wars has been around for so long, the Darth Vader outfit is still one of the best children’s fancy dress costumes availble today.

Darth Vader Deluxe Costume: Darth Vader’s costume is a clear showing of George Lucas’ interest in samurai warriors. Although bizarrely enough his helmet was originally taken from the first World War design of German helmets.
